The Sacraments

Those wishing to enter into full communion in the Catholic Church should contact the rectory for detailed information on the RCIA program and/or to schedule a meeting with Fr. Hayden.

Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism is administered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on the second Sunday of the month following 10:00AM Mass. Baptismal preparation is required. Parents are asked to call the rectory and make an appointment with the pastor. Father Hayden will make a home visit and conduct the baptismal preparation at this time. For adults seeking initiation into the Church please click here R.C.I.A. or see the Religious Education page.

Eucharist
The reception of one's First Holy Communion is normally celebrated when a child has reached the age of reason, usually the second grade. According to the Archdiocesan policy, "children must be enrolled in and attending religious education classes in first and second grade or for one full year prior to the year they prepare for First Eucharist." (Archdiocesan Sacramental Preparation and Guidelines for Children: First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Copyright 1991. For more information call the church office.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is administered in the 11th grade at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Confirmation candidates must be enrolled in the Confirmation Preparation Program and attend religious education classes. The preparation period is two and a half years. High school students attending public and private non-sectarian schools must be registered in religious education classes. High school students attending Catholic schools must be registered in the Confirmation process at Sacred Heart of Jesus School of Religion. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Father Hayden.

Reconciliation
Reconciliation (Confession) is on Saturdays from 3:45 P.M. until 4:15 P.M., 10 minutes before weekday Masses or anytime by appointment (985-764-6503). Communal reconciliation services with individual confession are scheduled during the Advent and Lenten seasons.

Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick is administered on an as-needed basis. Persons undergoing major surgery or advanced in years who would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the church office.

Matrimony
A couple desiring to be married is expected to contact the priest/deacon at least six (6) months prior to the proposed date of their wedding. This interval allows time to prepare well for such a sacred commitment. (Handbook of Policies, Archdiocese of New Orleans.) All couples desiring to be married at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church must contact Father Hayden for an appointment to begin the marriage preparation process.

Holy Orders
Any young man desiring to know more about the priesthood should contact Father Hayden or visit the vocation section of the Archdiocese's web site. Individuals interested in learning more about serving God through other religious orders can contact Father Hayden or access the Archdiocese of New Orleans for links to various religious orders.
