Sacred Heart of Jesus Ministries
There are many ways to be an active part of your parish. Please join us in one of these ministries!
This ministry provides an opportunity for Catholic youth to serve God and their parish family. It allows them to play an intricate role in the Mass itself. All members of the parish (4th grade or older) are invited to become Altar Servers. Call the rectory for more information.
Ministers of the Word (Lectors)
Readers have been called many names but the most appropriate name is "Proclaimers of the Word." Men and women are chosen from the community to perform this important role in the Eucharistic Celebration as well as other rituals and prayer gatherings. At Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, those wishing to participate in this ministry are required to attend one training session, usually an hour-long session, given by the pastor. The session is scheduled at a time that is most convenient for all. Once a person has been trained properly, he or she is placed on the schedule and is expected to fulfill their ministry to the best of their ability. Call the rectory for more information.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
This title is given to those who have the privilege and honor of distributing Communion at Mass and to the sick who are homebound. One must be a Confirmed Catholic Christian, 18 years old or older. It's an important ministry reserved to those called by the Christian community and properly trained by the Office of Worship (Archdiocese of New Orleans). Those who are interested in becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion should contact the pastor at the rectory to sign up for the next training workshop. Upon completion of the workshop ,each new minister meets with the pastor to go over the procedures unique to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
The Ministry of Hospitality (Ushers & Greeters)
The Ministry of Hospitality is open to any person (man or woman) who belongs to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. There is training for those men and women are interested in the ministry, so please see one the ushers or greeters before Mass begins. You can also contact the rectory if you have questions.
We are blessed to have talented parishioners who are willing to share God's gift of music with us. If you feel called to share your special talent, please join us! Angels of Mercy Bereavement Group
Angels of Mercy Bereavement Group was formed in June 1996. When a parishioner passes away, the bereavement group members bring prayer leaflets, food and drinks to the family and offer any other assistance or comfort the family may need. If you are interested in volunteering or for more information please call Dianne Mayeux at (985) 764-2426.
The Men of Sacred Heart
The Yard Boys are a group of retirees who volunteer their time and talents to help maintain and improve the Sacred Heart complex (rectory, convent, church & school). The type of work they perform may include general grounds and building maintenance or new construction. They work every Tuesday starting at 8:00 A.M. You do not have to be retired to get involved. What skills do you have to offer? For more information call the rectory during normal business hours.
Ministry of Care
The Ministry of Care was established to provide emergency aid to parishioners who are experiencing hard times. Before food or financial aid can be given, a case worker will meet with the parishioner(s) to understand their needs. If you are interested in working with this ministry please contact the rectory.
